چکیده

A simple thin film effective index analysis for first-order gratings in Si photonic waveguides is shown to provide highly accurate results reflected and transmitted power spectrums as long the waveguide remains single mode non-radiating. cover layer can be added grating region of a increase strength grating, modify transition losses from input region, and/or width reflectivity spectrum. For given period, peak reflection spectral decrease duty cycle decreased or increased ∼50%. both radiating multimode structures, coupling between all modes, radiated towards superstrate (upwards), downwards (substrate) analyzed by Floquet-Bloch, Eigenmode Expansion Finite Difference Time Domain methods show excellent agreement. Coupling coefficients calculated using analytic formulas are only shallow depths.

Photonic bandgaps in patterned waveguides of silicon-rich silicon dioxide

We describe waveguides of photoluminescent silicon-rich silicon dioxide, which have been patterned by triangular two-dimensional ~2D! photonic crystals to give higher-order photonic bandgaps occurring within the luminescence band of the core material. Photonic crystal modification of the photoluminescence spectrum allows identification of angle-tuned photonic bandgaps, in close agreement with 2...

Optical pulse compression based on nonlinear silicon waveguides and chirped Bragg gratings

Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...

Mid-infrared photonic crystal waveguides in silicon.

We demonstrate the design, fabrication and characterization of mid-infrared photonic crystal waveguides on a silicon-on-insulator platform, showing guided modes in the wavelength regime between 2.9 and 3.9 µm. The characterization is performed with a proprietary intra-cavity Optical Parametric Oscillator in a free space optical setup and with a fibre coupled setup using a commercial Quantum Cas...
